Hello! My name is Carey Montgomery and I am a South African teacher. I have taught many different subjects, but English is by far my favourite! I have been an online English teacher for more than three years and I’ve worked with a wide variety of students of all backgrounds, levels and ages. Some of my students have been local university students and others have been international children or adult learners. Up to date I have been an English, Mandarin Chinese and Economics teacher. I love communicating with diverse people from around the world and establishing lasting relations regardless of space or time-zone.
I have a great command of the English language and I have also recently learned how to communicate in Mandarin Chinese. Learning this complicated language allowed me to attend a sponsored summer school program in Xiamen China. I absolutely loved travelling, immersive learning and being exposed to the cultures of the world. Learning Chinese as an adult gave me first-hand experience of how difficult it can be learning a new language where the alphabet, pronunciation, tones and grammar is completely different to what you are familiar with. Despite the many obstacles that you might face while learning English, know that with hard work, dedication and practice you too may become a fluent English speaker.
I have a fiery passion for research, knowledge acquisition and learning. I believe that knowledge and information is the world’s most valuable resource. As teachers, it is our responsibility to share the wisdom of the world with those who seek it. This is why I will always try to inform and enrich the lives of my students. I feel blessed for having learned English at a young age and have so many prospects because of my language abilities. I want my students to be equally successful in their studies and in their lives!
My love for research and continued learning is the reason why I am still enrolled as a student to this day. I am currently doing my MA in Political Science at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.
My thesis for this degree is based on the socio-political consequences of terrorism in Afghanistan.
Both my studies and my teaching illustrate my desire to aid and develop people, societies and even countries.
While I can be very serious and professional at times, I can also be silly, enthusiastic and fun! My students love the energy that I bring to a classroom. Think of me as your fun, friendly, foreign teacher! I aim to build a solid relationship with my learners. I want you to feel comfortable with me as your teacher and I want you to know that I will be here to support you throughout your studies!
